Last night we were eating pizza and afterward I noticed Julia looking at herself in the mirror. I asked her what she was doing and she said "Mommy, look at my tooth..." I looked and saw that it was just barely hanging on. I told her this and she promptly freaked out. She was crying and saying "I'm scared!" When I looked in her eyes, it broke my heart. I saw the fear, and I remembered feeling that way myself when I had loose teeth: scared to let someone pull it because I thought it would hurt, but miserable because I couldn't eat or think about anything else but the tooth. I didn't want her to go through that. I sat her down and told her the same thing. I said "I wish that I had let my parents pull it when it was that loose because I was a basketcase, and I don't want you to be scared and not be able to eat for the next day or two. It's ready. If we just pull it out, it will be over tonight and the Tooth Fairy can come. But no one is going to force you to have it pulled, it's completely your choice."
We asked our neighbor, Miss Anna (who is Julia's friend Avery's mom) to come over and take a look at it. Avery has lost like 7 or 8 teeth already and she also has an 11 year old sister....so Miss Anna is a pro at this. After Miss Anna confirmed that it was definitely about to come out, Julia was still scared and did not want it pulled out so we thanked Miss Anna and she went home. A few minutes later, Julia brought me a paper towel and said (with these big tears in her eyes) "I just want this to be over!" It was so sad! :( So we trooped down to Miss Anna's with Lexie, Mommy with the camera in hand. It took awhile after we got there for Julia to truly gather the courage to let her pull it. She wanted it done, but was so scared. I felt bad because we were keeping them from dinner....I finally started saying "Julia, if you want it done, you've got to let her do it. If you don't want to, we'll go home. It's your choice." She kept maintaining that she wanted it pulled and didn't want to leave. Finally (a good half hour later!) out it came. She was so excited....and still is! She got money from the Tooth Fairy.....brought it up to our room at 6:30am to show us!! :)
Hope you enjoy the video clips! They're kind of chaotic and loud, funny and sad, all at the same time. I felt so sorry for her, but in the end she was a good sport about it. There wasn't great lighting in the room, so it's a little dark. Also, in the last clip, when the tooth comes out, I didn't realize the camera was still on so like the last 20 seconds is just blackness with us talking in the background. Sorry about that! :)
